Madison Grand

The Madison Grand bar redevelopment reimagines a high-traffic hotel lounge into a refined, guest-centred destination anchored by a sculptural oval bar. The challenge was to create a layout that could comfortably accommodate more than 100 guests while ensuring bartenders could deliver fast, consistent service during peak periods. By focusing on visibility, circulation, and operational precision, the new design balances elegance with efficiency—transforming the bar into the hotel’s signature social focal point.

CONCEPT

The concept phase focused on understanding the hotel’s service model, guest demographics, and day-to-night operational needs. Early planning explored the oval bar as a central architectural gesture—one that maximises seating, enhances bartender reach, and offers 360-degree visibility across the lounge. Initial floor plans established efficient bartender workstations, direct access to storage and glass washing, and intuitive guest flow from arrival through seating.

SCHEMATIC

Schematic design positioned the oval bar at the heart of the space, creating a natural anchor for circulation and sightlines. Layouts were developed to balance high-density seating with comfortable movement, incorporating a mix of bar stools, lounge clusters, and adaptable event-ready configurations. Behind the bar, adjacencies were refined to ensure that speed rails, refrigeration, ice wells, and POS zones were within ergonomic reach, reducing steps per transaction and improving service speed.

IMPLEMENTATION

Implementation included detailed coordination of structural supports, plumbing lines, electrical runs, and the integration of bar equipment. Technical drawings defined: Wet and dry zones behind the bar Undercounter refrigeration and glass polishers Lighting strategies to highlight the bar form while maintaining a warm, ambient guest environment Durable finishes suitable for high-wear hospitality conditions Attention to detail ensured the bar’s curves, joinery interfaces, and service points aligned seamlessly with mechanical and hydraulic requirements.

FINALISATION

Finalisation involved issuing complete architectural plans, equipment schedules, and construction-ready cut sheets. Site coordination supported the builders during installation, ensuring the oval bar footprint, accessibility clearances, and back-of-house service provisions were delivered precisely in accordance with the design intent. The completed space enhances both the lounge's social energy and the bar team's operational capability, creating a hospitality experience that feels polished, intuitive, and unmistakably Madison Grand.

Project Details

The revitalised Madison Grand bar elevates the hotel’s guest experience through a highly considered balance of form and function. The oval bar acts as both an architectural centrepiece and an operational engine, offering efficient bartender circulation and maximising interaction points for guests. Seating zones were planned to accommodate varied guest behaviours: quick drinks at the bar, relaxed social gatherings in lounge pockets, and flexible arrangements for events or overflow dining.

Strategically zoning storage, POS, and glass-washing facilities behind the bar enables staff to work with minimal cross-contamination, supporting faster service and a smoother workflow. Lighting, material selections, and acoustic treatments were chosen to create a warm, contemporary atmosphere that complements the hotel’s broader design identity while remaining durable enough for daily high-volume use.
